HORSE SLIP
The annual horse show is an old tradition. As early as 1868, the stallion Veikle Balder was released together with his mares. In modern times, there are three horse shows that run in the valley and the shows take place on the weekend around St. Hans each year. In 2025, the show date is June 21. This year's stallions that will run in Sikkilsdalen are: Gullramp in Åkrehavna, Dyrhaug Borken in Prinsehavna and the coldblood trotter stallion Galileo in Bristol.
If you would like to experience the horse show up close, we welcome the public to the show weekend in our three harbours; Åkrehavna at 2:00 PM, Prinsehavna at 1:00 PM and Bristol at 11:00 AM. You can also visit the horse shows throughout the season until the first weekend in September. We will serve food and drinks.
Welcome!

HIKING
Mountain hikes such as Sikkilsdalshø at 1778 m above sea level, is a gem in the eastern part of Jotunheimen. The hike takes about 5 hours round trip. You also have the opportunity to walk down the west side of the hill to Bristol on Øvre Sikkilsdalsvann. Continue along the water back to the mountain lodge. Along the way there is a unique flora and rich plant life (the hike takes about 6-8 hours, 18km)
Other summit hikes such as to Sikkilsdalshornet, Såta and Heimdalshø must also be mentioned. The route Storhøliseter- Oskampen - Sikkilsdalseter- Bessheim - Gjendesheim is a DNT marked trail that is well suited if you want to walk from cabin to cabin.
The 22 km long road from Skåbu was chosen by Sjur Sande and O.T Kampesæter at the end of the 19th century. This is a trail that is marked and easy to walk. The trail runs from Skardfjellgrenda in Skåbu, under Skardfjellet via Flekkmoen, Åkermoen and further into Sikkilsdalen on the north side of the road.
You can find more information and maps of the hikes at the reception.
SKI TRIPS
In winter there are prepared ski trails to Bessheim, among other places. Otherwise there is a prepared circular trail in the valley.
It is also nice to put on your randonné or mountain skis to walk on the peaks around on both sides of the valley.
